Little known industrial village which inspired Port Sunlight.

Bromborough Pool was a model village long before Port Sunlight. In the 1850s, Price’s Patent Candle Company built a planned model village near their candle works. This was one of the earliest industrial model villages in Britain. When William Lever founded Port Sunlight in 1888 he studied existing philanthropic industrial communities. Bromborough Pool Village served as an early local model and likely influenced his thinking.
